How The Installation Process Works

If you haven’t decided on your floor then we recommend browsing our flooring options on our website under the ‘products’ menu and ordering samples to compare tones, textures and the overall look.

Many visitors find it useful seeing samples in our showroom located in Aston Clinton, next to Aylesbury which has over 200 large display boards and our helpful advisors can offer guidance on which flooring to choose.

Once you have chosen your flooring we offer a free, no-obligation survey where we will check important factors including subfloor moisture, floor levels, skirting and go over all the technical parts of the project. We aim to work closely with you to achieve a beautifully installed floor at your property.

Already have your floor? That’s fine, we can survey the area and offer fitting only.

Surveying the project

Surveys allow us to measure the area and check the site for a number of conditions such as floor levels, moisture levels, subfloor issues, skirting requirements and many more. We will go through the project requirements and it gives you an option to ask any questions about the works.

Once the above steps are complete, the surveyor will confirm the process for your project but we usually prepare the room and uplift any existing floors.

Book your free survey using the contact form found throughout the page.

Preparing the subfloor

We prepare the subfloor to make sure it’s level, has the correct damp levels and is secure.

If the floor is uneven we use a quick-drying high quality self-levelling compound over the areas or in some cases the entire floor area.

To measure the dampness we use a moisture meter to make sure there are no underlying damp issues. If there are damp issues we can apply a damp proof membrane to the area.

Installation

For this project we used underlay and floated the floor whilst applying some wood adhesive in the tongue and groove. The main methods of installation are listed in detail further down this page.

Below you can see some images of the original floor and then subfloor with the underlay installed.

After a quick tidy up and moving the furniture back, the floor looks great. Please note that dust from the fitting process does take time to settle so although we try and clear this up, it will need a dust and hoover once the dust settles.

Types Of Installation

When it comes to the installation process there are four main methods:

1. ‘Floating’ which means bonding the floor together over an underlay base

2. Fully bonding to the subfloor using flexible polymer adhesive

3. Secret nailing to a wooden subfloor using a porta-nailer

4. Metal clip and click-lock systems

Once we survey the area we will recommend which type of installation will be best. For example, if we were installing herringbone and solid wood then we would have to fully bond the flooring to the subfloor using our recommended flexible polymer adhesive.

Styles of flooring we install include Herringbone and Chevron parquet block, Versailles Panels, narrow strip and wide plank engineered or solid wood, laminate and Vinyl flooring.
